DAVID ANNESLEY

Fire

David Annesley’s artwork depicts the swirling flames of a fire using form and colour. This dramatic piece constructed in 1980 from painted welded steel. His sculptures, which are frequently bright in colour and geometric patterns and are inspired by his experience in the RAF, create a sense of lightness and movement in space. In 1980, the Peterborough Development Corporation purchased Fire for the Orton Centre. Burghley has now taken on a long-term loan of the sculpture. It is on display in the Garden of Surprises, Burghley Sculpture Park, Stamford PE9 3JY.

About David Annesley
David Annesley is a British artist who was born in London in 1936 and rose to prominence in the 1960s. Annesley studied at St Martins School of Art in London, where he was taught by Sir Anthony Caro, after serving in the army. After that, he held many teaching positions and exhibited widely. Three of his pieces are in the Tate Collection, which is one of the most prestigious collections in the world. Annesley was a member of the 1960s ‘New Generation’ group. The Group is notable for placing sculptures directly on the ground, rather than on a plinth, so that they inhabit the same area as the viewer1.

More of Annesley’s work and portfolio can be found in Wiki Art and Waddington Custot. Please get in touch if you have any further information on the sculpture Fire you would like to share. Thank you.
