State of A Nation

DOUGH COCKER
State of A Nation
The sculpture State of a Nation by Doug Cocker is part of Peterborough’s sculpture portfolio managed by Nene Park Trust. It boasts one of the country’s most significant collections of works by British sculptors.
Doug Cocker (b.1945), who is most recognised for his sculpture, also produces a tremendous amount of work on paper1. He received numerous honours that allowed him to travel, including lengthy excursions through Greece, study in Italy, and America2. Many of the artist’s works highlight current social and political themes, such as State of a Nation, which depicts a temple on its knees with a wrecking ball locked in the columns, which he created in 1986.
Doug Cocker was born in Alyth, Perthshire, and studied sculpture at Dundee’s Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. He was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1984. Although most of his work is displayed in Scotland, he has strong local ties, having lectured at Nene College in Northampton for ten years. His public sculptures can be found in a variety of locations across the United Kingdom, and his work is held in a number of public collections.
State of A Nation is currently in storage for safe keeping. The installation’s timing and date are unknown. Please email me if you have further information on State of A Nation. Thank you.
