Regeneration

Richard Gibson, Lee Mawby, and David Whatley collaborated on Regeneration as a community sculpture. The Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) commissioned it in 1999 to promote the Peterborough Green Wheel, and it was constructed during a series of events when the public was asked to participate by inscribing their memories of Peterborough.

There were five more sculptures of this theme, according to Richard. He is unsure what happened to all of them, with the exception of one, which he thought was at the Ferry Meadows entrance on Castor’s western side. We are not sure if the sculpture is still there today. Richard was recently informed that the Nene Park Trust intends to remove Regeneration from Thorpe Meadow Sculpture Park. There is no more information on what will happen to it1. The unfortunate aspect of removing the sculpture is that the history of that time period will be lost to future generations if no record is kept. Earthen and Gateway are two other sculptures by Richard that are listed on this website.

Materials: Plywood, galvanised steel, copper sheet & aluminium sheet. Dimensions: 1300mm x 1900mm.

Please get in touch if you have further information about Regeneration that you would like to share. Thank you.
