Figure 1: Song of Sisyphus
DOUG COCKER

Song of Sisyphus

This sculpture was formerly located near Overton Lake in Ferry Meadows Country Park in the 1980s. It is thought to have been craved in Ferry Meadows and installed in 1988. It was exhibited there for over 20 years and decommissioned in 20111. The whereabouts and current location are unknown.

The Song of Sisyphus was a gigantic sculpture by Doug Cocker. His artwork frequently addresses current social and political themes, such as State of a Nation, which was made in 1986 and shows a temple on rockers with a wrecking ball wedged between the columns. Song of Sisyphus, an almost totemic sculpture created under Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative administration, has a primal and political presence.2.
